Frequently Asked Questions
Is Maccabee Bar a religious thing?
Maccabee Bar is not a religious event. Maccabee Bar aims to represent a different side of the holiday season in secular spaces. Let’s face it, when most places say “holiday-themed”, what it really means is Christmas-themed with maybe a token menorah in the corner. We are simply bringing the menorah out of the corner and making it the whole damn thing! So no matter what you grew up celebrating, we invite you to make coming to Maccabee Bar part of your holiday celebration.
Is Maccabee Bar certified Kosher?
Maccabee Bars are not certified kosher. As much as we wish we could make Maccabee Bar accessible to anyone and everyone who would be interested in coming, getting a space to be certified kosher is a huge undertaking both operationally and financially and therefor not feasible for a small pop-up operation that is hosted by existing businesses for only a short time.
For those that are not strictly kosher, you will find items that are vegan, with ingredients that do not require certification and using spirits that are considered kosher (ie gin or tequila), however ingredients may be prepared in a space that is not kosher and may share equipment with non-kosher items.

Who can host a Maccabee Bar?
Maccabee Bar was created as a bar pop-up that takes over an existing bar from anywhere from 2 weeks to up to a month. Ideal partners are cocktail bars that already juice fresh, make their own syrups and have the ability to handle making craft cocktails in a high volume setting. Bars that choose to host a Maccabee Bar are in charge of all of their own staffing and bar management. If you own a bar and are interested in becoming a partner location please contact us!
Maccabee Bar was not created to be a one-night event or an event hosted in a non-bar space. For organizations or individuals looking to host a Hanukkah celebration with specialty cocktails, please reach out directly to founder, Naomi Levy, about the possibility of guest bartending services.
